Hope and Health Project sends their love, condolences, and support to Puerto Rico and all other areas affected by Hurricane Maria. Our hearts are with you all! We are organizing support avenues for Puerto Rico, both monetary and collectible hygiene items, medicines etc.
Days after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico Hope & Health Project began mobilizing efforts for items needed to send relief to the island. We partnered with different organizations, scheduled warehouses, pick ups, drop off’s, airplanes etc. As soon as the airport was open and the permission given we were able to send items like:
Bottled water, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, diapers, canned foods, dry foods, baby formula, garbage bags, towels, canned milk, canned and dry pet food, pain relief medicine, stomach and diarrhea relief medicine, mosquito repellent, blankets, pillows, first aid kits, laundry detergents, dish soap. Also construction supplies such as extension cords, ground fault protectors, pop up canopies, shovels, wheelbarrows, crowbars, hammers, utility knives, work gloves, wood panels, electric generators, electric cables, tarp, ropes, chainsaws, safety glasses.
Within days the response was overwhelming, the calls, the supplies, the volunteers, were amazing. Hope & Health is very thankful for the Florida community coming together in this project.
The time has come to begin Phase II of project, and with the help of Doctors for Puerto Rico we are mobilizing for the collection and rehabilitation efforts to bring the necessary physicians and medical supplies to the island. Hope & Health Project will be purchasing several thousands of dollars in necessary medical supplies that will be traveling with physicians as early as the first week in October.
At the same time we know and understand that there may be 100,000 puertorican evacuees expected to migrate to Florida and the U.S mainland seeking refuge and residency. Rising up to meet the challenge of helping these evacuees the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Orlando based non-profit organization Latino Leadership partnered to created the Puerto Rico Family Response Center. It is currently operating in Orlando but Hope & Health Project will be partnering with them to bring it to the Tampa Bay area as well.
We are in desperate need of monetary funds to make these efforts possible.
